Today, I went to see a house that was on sale.
I thought since I’ll most likely have to come back to Kagoshima several times a year for the foreseeable future, that it would be nice if I had a place that I can call my own.
The house was a 3DK for 3,500,000 yen, and about a 20 minute drive from my dad’s place.
It is so affordable that I was wondering what could be so wrong with it that it was going for such a price. Well, it’s of course 40 years old, but cleaned and fairly well maintained. There were no visible damages nor leaking either.
The biggest problem was the farmland that surrounded the house. (It was all covered in tall grass at this point.) It would be perfect for someone who actually has a farming license, but I don’t, and I don’t plan to farm anytime soon…
According to the real estate agent that was showing me around, in order to purchase the property, I would need to either get a farming license and start growing crops OR change the zoning and build something on the farmland so that it is no longer usable for farming. Both will take too much time and money than I care to invest, so I had to turn down the offer for the time being.
That was the first house I went to see, but I’ll keep looking. At first I was only looking at houses for sale, but I also started to look into houses and apartments for rent as well. All of a sudden the search results went from a few dozen to few thousand possible locations. Let’s see if I can find the perfect spot for me.
