Hi, I’m Loa

Thank you for coming to my blog.

I was hit by the travel bug just about 10 years ago in 2014. After my first trip to Thailand and Korea, I worked morning and night to fund my international travels during school breaks. I was stuck in a rat race that I designed for myself, against myself?

Out of high school, I was able to get enough scholarships to cover my university costs, but I needed to pay for living expenses as well. As I started attending university, I started two part time jobs at the same time. One in the early morning before classes and one at night. Everyday was crazy busy and I barely remember a thing, as I was always running low on sleep most days.

When summer break hits, I take whatever money I made and book a flight somewhere overseas. I usually didn’t plan too much in advance, but made sure that my days overseas were packed with sightseeing and activities. I’d spend anywhere from two weeks to a month abroad, and the day I return home, I start working once again towards the next trip.

I enjoyed the trips I took in my early twenties, but looking back at it now, it was hectic and not something I can see myself doing again.

This lifestyle continued even after graduating from university, until I had a breakdown in 2018. I quit all my jobs, got rid of all of my things and moved to Japan, where my grandmother and father were. I lived like a hermit for a couple months, gathered my thoughts and returned back home to Hawaii in 2019.

My 6 month stay in Japan gave me time to rest and organize my thoughts, but once I returned back to Hawaii, I was back to grinding. My new goal was to save up money to travel to all 47 prefectures in Japan. I worked though COVID and for some reason ended up attending a Lomi Lomi massage school and getting my Hawaii State Massage License as well.

In February 2023, I made my most-recent move to Japan.

Although the plan was to travel around in my Toyota Town Ace to all the prefectures, I ended up spending most of my time with family in Tokyo and Kagoshima, which I don’t regret.

I am currently watching over my father in Kagoshima. He is musician with stage three stomach cancer, trying to build a live house (Studio Roku) in rural Kagoshima, and I’m just here trying to do what I can to help.

Stay tuned to see the progress we make with the property and the mini-adventures I take on my “free” days.
